Current Learning Opportunities are offered below, first from the Upstate PDRC  on the left by topic area. Also provided are titles of opportunities offered by our PDRC partners; the Long Island PDRC at Catapult Learning and the NYC PDRC at Fordham University, off to the right. During this time of social distancing all of the PDRC learning opportunities are open and available to all NYS Religious and Independent Schools. You may register for Upstate PDRC offerings here on our website by clicking on the registration link provided below. Part I: The Basics of Adaptive Leadership - Getting Started

This session will explore the basic understandings of adaptive and technical challenges in our school communities.  This begins a series that is sequential in nature and attendance is encouraged at all three sessions, if possible, for a comprehensive understanding of Adaptive Leadership.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the differences between adaptive & technical challenges

  • Diagnose where adaptive and technical challenges exist your school communities

  • Identify ways we can approach complex change and maintain an equilibrium to support those we support through change initiatives

  • Learn from practice scenarios to identify adaptive and technical elements and identify ways to effectively support others through the process of complex change initiatives

Part II: The Art and Science of Adaptive Leadership Practices

This session will build off of Part I: The Basics of Adaptive Leadership - Getting Started as we identify ways to mobilize the system and support adaptive challenges in our school communities.

Participants will be able to:

  • Explore the seven behaviors of adaptive leadership that support school communities as they embark on change initiatives

  • Identify ways to design effective interventions to support various stakeholders’ voice and perspective

  • Examine a current change initiative you are responsible for implementing as a personal activity to identify how to support and guide others through adaptive challenges

  • Analyze ways to productively orchestrate conflict and build an adaptive culture that is reflective and supports continuous learning as an iterative process for your school community

PART III: Understanding Your Role in Cultivating an Adaptive Culture through Complex Change

Part III: Understanding Your Role in Cultivating an Adaptive Culture through Complex Change

This final session of our three-part series will build off of Part I: The Basics of Adaptive Leadership - Getting Started and Part II: The Art and Science of Adaptive Leadership Practices as we see the system and utilize practical applications of Adaptive Leadership to support our school communities.

Participants will be able to:

  • Apply Adaptive Leadership to support our school communities.

  • Understand the roles you play in applying Adaptive Leadership practices

  • Effectively articulate and stay connected to your purposes throughout the change process as you lead your school community

  • Engage courageously with conversations that value all voices and create shared collaboration with complex change initiatives

  • Inspire people by speaking from your heart to help your school community thrive as you cultivate a supportive network for all your stakeholders

Life After COVID 19: Reflection & Planning Forward

With a grounding in general theory and best practices regarding scenario planning, Teachers and School Leaders will be empowered to take agency and think more strategically and critically about their options and opportunities in navigating the current uncertainty.This session will provide an opportunity for teachers to reflect on this period of online teaching and learning. Participants will;

  • reflect on past learning and plan for the future re-opening,

  • explore and discuss current trends in education post COVID 19,

  • gain an understanding of disaster cycle management and how it applies to our current reality,  

  • gain insight into the why, how, and what of scenario planning and contingency planning, and  

  • explore strategies and tools that educators can implement immediately.

Jim Knight’s Unmistakable Impact: The 7 Partnership Principles

This session provides an opportunity to explore Jim Knight’s 7 Partnership Principles. Jim Knight is a nationally known instructional coach, speaker and author. His 7 Partnership Principles have transformed the way schools and teachers build partnerships toward school improvement with a focus on teaching and learning. This session will include a pre-reading homework assignment, The 7 Partnership Principles from one of Jim Knight’s more popular and successful books: Unmistakable Impact - A Partnership Approach to Dramatically Improving Instruction ((https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1412994306/).PDF copies of text will be provided.

Participants will explore the 7 Partnership Principles using a discussion protocol and identify  opportunities for implementation of the Principles in their practice and in their schools.

Multiplier Effect: Tapping the Genius inside Our Schools

This session provides an opportunity to explore The book The Multiplier Effect: Tapping the Genius Inside of Our Schools (https://thewisemangroup.com/books/the-multiplier-effect/). The Multiplier Effect has transformed the way school leaders nurture the talent within their staff. This introduction to the text will provide a glimpse into how leaders can potentially double their team’s effectiveness. This session will include a pre-reading homework assignment from the book. PDF copies of text will be provided.

Some of the topics covered in this book and in the text-based discussion will include, how to:

  • attract top teachers to their school

  • create an environments that cultivate people’s best thinking

  • drive sound decisions by constructing debate and decision-making forums

  • give teams as sense of ownership for responsibilities of results

Participants will explore elements of the book using a discussion protocol and learn opportunities to begin to implement multiplier strategies in their own schools.
